FILE: ABC BOARD MEMBER LEGAL STATUS NUMBER The number of trustees for The Portage la Prairie School Division No. 24 is nine. They are elected on the following basis: -Five trustees from Ward One. -One trustee from each of Wards Two to Five. Legal Reference: PSA - Sec. 24 QUALIFICATIONS A person is qualified to be a trustee of the division if: a) he/she is a resident elector in the division; and b) he/she is a Canadian citizen as defined in the Local Authorities Election Act; and c) he/she is of the full age of eighteen years; and d) he/she is not disqualified from being a trustee under any other provision of the Manitoba Public Schools Act. No employee and no pupil in regular attendance at school shall be a trustee. Legal Reference: PSA - Sec. 22, 227 NOMINATION Any person seeking election as a school trustee shall complete and present to the returning officer by the designated closing date a Nomination Paper as prescribed in The Local Authorities Election Act. Nominations shall be signed by at least twenty-five electors, or not less than 1% of the electors (whichever is the lesser) of the ward, but in all cases by at least two electors. Legal Reference: PSA - Sec. 23(1) TERM OF OFFICE AND COMMENCEMENT OF TERM Each trustee shall be elected and hold office for a term of four years commencing fourteen days after the fourth Wednesday in October of the year of his election, or on the date of the first meeting whichever first occurs.
