FILE: EDA STUDENT TRANSPORTATION MANAGEMENT It shall be the goal of The Portage la Prairie School Division No. 24 to provide a safe and efficient student transportation system for the curricular and extra-curricular programs of the school division. The student transportation system shall operate in accordance with the requirements of the The Public Schools Act, the Province of Manitoba Highway Traffic Act, and the policies and regulations of The Portage la Prairie School Division No. 24. Transportation to and from school shall be provided as follows: 1. Twice daily for all students of The Portage la Prairie School Division residing outside the limits of the City of Portage la Prairie. a) Rural kindergarten students are eligible for transportation on either the morning or afternoon run, whichever may be applicable or on both morning and afternoon runs if the student is enrolled in an all-day program. b) Rural students may be required to walk or transport themselves to the designated bus stop location which may be up to 1/2 mile from the property of the parent or guardian. 2. As required for handicapped students whom transportation has been approved by the superintendent. Application for the transportation of handicapped students must be submitted to the superintendent on the prescribed form. Junior high school students who are required to attend another school for home economics and industrial arts programs shall have transportation provided for such authorized programs. Transportation will be provided for educational field trips and for participants in athletic or other school affiliated events to the limit of the annual budget provided by the board for this purpose. Additional curricular and extra-curricular transportation may be provided subject to the availability of vehicles and drivers. Such additional transportation shall be paid for by school or student fees. All curricular and extra-curricular transportation shall be recorded on the prescribed form by the principal and approved by the transportation supervisor. Transportation may be provided to students registered in the Portage la Prairie School Division who are attending classes at the Portage Learning Centre or other locations approved by the school division.
