Assessment and Evaluations

NMS uses a wide variety of assessment and evaluation tools to measure academic performance and growth.  The types of assessment and evaluation for learning include:

Grades kindergarten and one are tested in September and June using TERA and Phonetic Awareness.

Individual testing of grade one students by Resource teacher.

bullet

Kindergarten to grade 3 Literacy Plan which includes PM Benchmark results, spelling test, sight words, writing sample.

bullet

Grades 4 to 6 Brigance Sentence writing, Schonnell Spelling and AGS Reading Resource testing: Kaufman, Keymath, TERA, Primary Screen, kindergarten and grade one Readiness Tests.nce Writing, Schonnell Spelling and AGS Reading Inventory each January, Canadian Test of Basic Skills

Student Reports:

Kindergarten to Grade 4:  The student reports were designed by the Portage School Division teachers. The reports list the learning outcomes in Language Arts and Math and student achievement in each outcome is indicated.

Grade 5 and 6:   A computerized report is used for grades 5 and 6.  Percentages are given for each subject. 

Provincial Assessment:  each year the grade 3 students are assessed for skills in Literacy and Numeracy.
