In the month of February, each school will be hosting and creating their own projects for I Love to Read Month. This year's theme is not available at this time.
Booklets will be distributed to members by their representatives nearing the end of January 2008.
The projects made will be celebrated at the schools during Education Week in April.

to Support LwICT - a hands-on workshop for Grades K-4 teachers!
This workshop begins with a review of the Continuum Model for Literacy with ICT for Grades K-4. This is a great opportunity for you to participate in some hands-on activities for LwICT with the software programs available in your schools. You will be introduced to Kidspiration with a sample lesson for concept mapping. The second program we will look at is Kid Pix which allows you to create pictures with drawing and painting tools and then create a slideshow by putting your pictures into a presentation with visual transitions and sounds.
5 – 8+ ~ E - Portfolios & Inspiration

brief demo will be provided on Inspiration. As many teachers are already
using this program it will turn into a sharing and exploration session.

and the staff at YQS are utilizing E - Portfolios this year and she will
introduce you to the three options that they have been looking at:

Also a PowerPoint presentation Wendy's grade 4/5's put together last year, using pictures taken throughout the year to create a "memory DVD" will be shown to the group.
As
an ICT team member I encourage teachers to step outside their comfort zones and
jump in with both feet. I know that's where I am for sure!!

to Use a SMART Board
This workshop is for educators just starting out with using a SMART Board. Concepts to be covered will include: setting up the board, orienting the boards with the computer, Notebook software, the Gallery, Essentials for Educators, web resources, and using the board with other educational software. We will focus particularly on uses and resources for teachers and students in the early years (K – 4).

Blair used SMART board technology to create units in a variety of subjects for his own classroom. During this session he is going to share some of these units as well as provide participants insight into creating their own themed units.

We were pleased to co-host a Publisher's Display at our Division-wide PD Day with the Professional Development Committee of the Portage la Prairie School Division. The Division-wide PD Day was held on Friday, February 25th, 2005 at the William Glesby Centre.
