PCI Music News – April 2010

Recent News

All of the ensembles have had a very busy couple of months.

The concert bands performed well at the Winnipeg Optimist Festival in February. The Wind Ensemble earned a 3 star rating in the level 4 category, the Sr. Concert Band earned 3 stars in the level 3 category, and the grade 9’s earned a 4 star rating in the level 2 category. The grade 9’s impressive performance has earned an invitation to Musicfest Canada 2011 in Vancouver.

The choir students have been quite busy with performances and workshops. Jazzizle and the grade 9 choir attended the CMCA Vocal Jazz Workshop in Altona. Jazzizle listened to other groups and received some constructive feedback on their own performance while the grade 9’s spent the day rehearsing vocal jazz techniques. The workshop finished with a performance from CMU’s Wholly Jazz. The concert choirs attended the Winnipeg Music Festival. Grade 9’s received a bronze rating for their first public performance. The Sr. Concert choir received a Silver rating. Jazzizle had two clinics and performances in March – first in Winnipeg, then again at the Brandon jazz Festival.

All of our jazz bands have had their festival performances. The grade 9’s performed at the Winnipeg Optimist Jazz Festival and received a rating of 3 stars. Both the Stage Band and the Chicken Tenders performed at Brandon Jazz Festival and received positive adjudications. The Stage Band also had a public performance at the PCU Centre grand opening.

Alberta Band and Choir trip – May 19^th – 24^th

          2^nd $200 deposit due March 2^nd

          Parent meetings Mon/Tue April 26/27 7:00 pm in music room

          Final payment due Tue April 27^th
