PCI Parent Council Meeting
Monday, May 28, 2007
In attendance: Sherri Morgan, Beth Connery, Dawn Froese, Lori Carpenter, Holly Brookes, Mark Diboll, Jim Pehura, and Bev Stanger.
Regrets: Kinelm Brookes, Shauna-Lei Leslie, Tracey Asham, Deb Neufeld, and Tracey Taylor.
Meeting was called to order at 7:10 pm.
The meeting agenda was presented and there were no additions to be made.
The minutes of April 16, 2007 were adopted as read. Adopted. All in favour. Carried.
Treasurer’s Report: No change in balances from previous meeting.
Volunteer Report: Sherri will be presenting the Volunteer Award at the Awards Ceremonies on June 22.
Under Grad awards June 26, 2007 at 2:00 pm.
The staff luncheon will be held in the Multi on Friday, June 22,2007 at 12:00.
Safety Coordinator Report: The cameras are still not 100% running yet. There have been a lot of things caught so far with the cameras that are working. There can be an automatic 2 day suspension and restitution to be paid for depending on the violation.
Administration Report: Healthy Choices- there has been a committee set up to work on this. Copies of the canteen menus are available if anyone is interested. Choices will be limited in regards to “unhealthy” choices. The contracts with Coke and Pepsi are being renegotiated for the upcoming school year.
Gerald Farthing was in the school touring the Adult Education and while here he checked out the canteen menu.
Classes for the fall will commence on Wednesday, September 5, the morning will be for the Senior 1 (Grade 9) students with all students attending in the afternoon. Thursday, September 6, will be the first full day of classes for all students.
The extra-curricular awards are being held on June 5, 2007 at 7:00 pm.
The parent survey will be sent out at the beginning of September. Dawn will look over last years survey to see if there are any revisions needed.
The “Little Black Book” has been ordered and will be ready for distribution in September.
Automotive department has distributed an automotive newsletter that has answers to questions people have had in regards to course content. This was sent out to students in grades 6 to 8.
The shop will be done around July 20, 2007 and will be ready for the School Division to use before school starts. Approximately 10% of the student body are enrolled in the Automotive program.
There will be a webct (on line courses) offered for some Senior 4 (Grade 12) courses. Students will be able to work on their school work at home or at school. There are two supervising teachers and at this time there are 13 students registered.
Don Remple, (a custodian), has been nominated to the board for the Excellence Award (for a staff member that has gone above). The award will be presented at the June 14 board meeting.
Safe Grad will be having their last meeting on June 12, at 8:00pm. There are approximately 450 students signed up for Safe Grad.
Prom was a success and Tracey Vanstone will be surveying the Grads on their thoughts of the Prom.
Grad Ceremony tickets are available with students being allowed 4 tickets to begin with and being able to request more. The ceremony will be held at the Canad Inn with reception to follow after the ceremony. The Canad Inn holds approximately 1700 people.
Lori Carpenter and Dawn Froese were nominated (a letter was written and submitted by Jim and Kinelm nominating them) for the Judy Atkin Memorial Award (a Manitoba Association of Parent Councils award). Mr. Jim Pehura read the letter that was sent, as well as the response from the award committee. (They were not the recipients of the award).
Old Business:
Monday, September 17, 2007 at 7:00 pm will be the first PAC meeting of the 2007/2008 school year.
Monday, October 15, 2007 at 7:00 pm will be the Annual General Meeting for the 2007/2008 school year.
