PCI Parent Advisory Council Meeting Monday, November 17, 2008

In Attendance; Beth Connery, Sandi Knight, Kinelm Brookes, Holly Brookes, Tracey Taylor, Colleen Pallister, Marilyn Gagnon, Bev Stanger, Jim Pehura, Jeff Utioh, Donna Ott, Preston Meier, Mark Diboll        Regrets: Sherri Morgan

The agenda was presented, there were no additions. Sandi Knight adopted the agenda as presented and Kinelm Brookes second. All in favor. Carried.

The minutes of October 20, 2008 were read. There were no errors or omissions. Sandi adopted the minutes as read and Kinelm second. All in favor. Carried.

Correspondence; The School board is holding a meet and greet at Yellowquill School on January 22, 2009. The event starts at 5:30 with a supper. Any interested executive members let Jim know through email in December.

Program Report; Will be held at PAC meetings. The January meeting will have a demo of the Maplewood program with the administration and teacher access. There are still problems with the mail outs within the Maplewood program. There will also be a board meeting with a demo for other principals in the division.

Volunteer Report; There is a dance scheduled for Thursday, December 4. 8 volunteers will be needed.

Safety Report; The lock down drill went well. Are in the process of getting exterior sound system for outside at the EPCS building. The maps that are in existence for ADT are not accurate, the fire alarm went off and they could not find out where it was. The RCMP have a tape recording repeat for the lock down. Our destination for evacuation is the Trinity United Church.

The mold problem has been looked after. There was a small amount more found in a couple of rooms and that is now being looked after. Ellwood-McRorie has the contract to clean it up.

The air quality has been checked within both buildings and it is better than outside. Three rooms were done at a time to provide the littlest disruption to classes.

Teacher Liaison; There is no report at this time. Introduction was made to Donna Ott the new teacher liaison.

Administration Report; The athletics are all doing pretty good. Travelling next year will going both ways not just our teams traveling for volleyball. The football team went 10 - 0

and won their division. Both hockey teams are doing well. The fan support for the Varsity boys volleyball and the hockey has been great.

Two term positions are looking to be filled for the two teachers leaving on maternity. Barb Kehrstephen is leaving on the January 30, 2009 and there will be a going away party for her to be held on January 23.

Mr. John Rennie passed away suddenly, he was the curriculum coordinator. He will be greatly missed.

There was an excellent turnout for Parent/Teacher interviews held last week.

The newsletter will be going out mid December with the exam schedule and information on graduation activities.

Synervoice is now working.

The BCT program applied for a grant to purchase a trailer to be able to take students to sites to use their skills. They received the grant and have the trailer here.

The Automotive program applied for a grant to purchase a new wheel alignment machine.

The School Report card is now out,

Student Council Report: School Spirit is at a high this year. There were two buses full of fans that went to the football final game in Winnipeg.

The school dances have been well attended.

The Hall of Fame is still a goal to have done for the end of the year. AMHS will be down by the band room in the PCI building with PCI going down the other hallway. There has been money set aside for this as well a donation of $11 00 was made.

The Grads of the amalgamated schools will be displayed in the EPCS building. Looking at having a new mascot as well as reviewing the team names.

Student Council is also reviewing the school logo.

The gym floors are being redone for the Winter Games 2010 with the team names being put on the floor at the 18" basketball line.

Old Business; Beth reported on the meeting she attended in October on "what we are looking for in a superintendent". It was an information meeting and all schools were represented.

We still have received no information on MAPC registration and the fees. The AGM is scheduled for May 1 &2,2009.

New Business; On December 19,2008 there is a potluck lunch being held at the school at 12:15 and the Parent Council members all invited. Please let Jim know if you are able to attend.

Next meeting is Monday, January 19,2009 at 6:30pm in the Library.
