ALUMNI NOTICE
TransCanada's Automation Integrity team was deeply saddened by the sudden passing of Sais Inthalansy on November 21, 2007.
Born in Laos, Sais moved with his family to Canada when he was a young boy. Raised in Portage La Prairie, Manitoba, he started his career as an instrumentation technician with TransCanada Calibrations. In 2000, he moved to Calgary and joined the Automation Integrity team as a SCADA Engineer.
Sais will always be remembered by his friends and colleagues as having a glowing smile and a most generous heart. What many people would consider sacrifice, he considered commonplace. This was most evident in the love and commitment he showed towards his family and friends. When his family and friends from Manitoba wanted to move to Calgary, he took them in under his roof and provided for all of them without wanting anything in return.
He loved to buy toys for the kids, help them with their school projects and take them to rent movies. He was even looking to buy a bigger house so everyone could be more comfortable. He easily volunteered his time and his belongings to anyone in need. If anyone needed a ride, Sais would offer it. If he had to work late, he would let his fellow carpoolers take his car home and opt to take transit home himself. Sais never complained about his own problems and always had time for yours.
Sais had a zest for life. No matter what then event was, he was in, and he was a key element in making the event a blast. At every ski trip, biking trip, golf game, poker night and celebration, he was there. He took part in adventures that he had little or no training for. He did extreme downhill biking and always made it to the bottom of the mountain, one way or another. He ran marathons for charity and never expected to win, but always expected to finish. Even his move to Calgary was an adventure. He stuffed his belongings into 'the supercar' (a green, early 90's Ford Tempo with a loose starter wire, 3 bald tires and 1 good tire of wrong size, and a coffee can for an exhaust pipe) and drove.
It is difficult to put into words why Sais was so loved. It could be his hilarious sense of humor. It could be his uplifting spirit. It could be his jolly nature or his love of life. Perhaps our sentiments are best echoed by a message from his brother, Som: "I don't need to tell everyone what a great guy he was. He was the kindest, most caring person I've ever known. I hate to refer to him in the past tense but I don't know any other way. He was a loving son and uncle to his two nephews, and the greatest brother that my sister and I could ever ask for. I'm the oldest out of us but most of the time I find myself looking up to him. I admire him for all he has done. He went to Calgary with basically the clothes on his back and a beat-up Tempo, made a living for himself, made some really good friends..thx guys..its good to know he has such caring friends. It was too soon brother. I love you, I'll miss - but I will never forget you."
