PORTAGE COLLEGIATE INSTITUTE GRADUATION AWARDS -   2010

 PCI Bursary / Scholarship applications will be available March 17th at noon in the Multi-Purpose room. All interested Gr. 12 students will be invited to attend this meeting. Parents are welcome to attend.

**Please note that the following list of scholarships were from last years grad.  It is to be expected that some will have slight changes.  An accurate list will be handed out at the PCI Bursary/Scholarship meeting.

ALICE MAYOR BURSARY OF $450.00                                                                                                

Awarded to a student who has been involved in a visual arts or performing arts program, lived in the Portage area for at least 3 years, and will be furthering their education at a post-secondary institution.

ALPHA DELTA KAPPA SORORITY SCHOLARSHIP OF $300.00

Presented to a graduating student who has worked diligently in his/her academic studies, and demonstrated responsibility in his/her involvement in the school and the community. The student must be continuing his/her education at a post-secondary education faculty in a program that leads to a career in working with children.

ARTHUR MEIGHEN HIGH SCHOOL FAREWELL SCHOLARSHIP/BURSARY OF  $700.00

Awarded to a graduating student who is a former student or a descendent of a student or staff member who attended, worked or taught at Arthur Meighen between the years of 1965 to June of 2006.  The student must be furthering their education.

ASSINIBOINE LODGE MASONIC BURSARY OF $750.00

Awarded to a student with good marks. A preference will be shown for the student with an interest in the sciences and who plans to attend university or community college in the upcoming fall.

AUSTIN CREDIT UNION SCHOLARSHIP OF $1000.00

Awarded to a student who has enrolled in either the Diploma of Agricultural Finance or Commerce Program, at the University of Manitoba.

BANK OF MONTREAL BURSARY OF   $500.00

Awarded to a graduating student who has attended school in Portage for 3 years, and who has been involved in the school and community.

BIG SKY EQUIPMENT AWARD- TOOLS VALUED AT APPROXIMATELY $250.00

Awarded to a graduate enrolled in the Automotive Technology Program, who has demonstrated good character and leadership ability within the Power Mechanics Program

CANADIAN PARENTS FOR FRENCH PORTAGE CHAPTER AWARD OF $300.00

Awarded to a graduating student who has demonstrated a keen interest and strong effort in his or her high school French studies.  This student plans to continue life-long learning in French.

Awarded to a graduating student who will be furthuring their education in the business area

Awarded to an immediate family member of a C.U.P.E. 2085 employee (works for the Portage School Division) and who will be pursuing a post-secondary education.

CALCULUS AWARD OF $150.00

Awarded to the graduating student with the highest mark in Calculus.

CAMERON J. HOOVER MEMORIAL AWARD OF $500.00

Awarded to a student achieving the highest mark in Chemistry 40S

CANADA SENIOR GAMES BURSARY OF  $500.00

Awarded to a graduating student who plans to attend post-secondary, and who has supported active living for seniors, either through volunteer work or employment.

CANADIAN TIRE AWARD OF A SOCKET SET VALUED AT APPROX. $300.00

Awarded to a student who exhibits high academics in the automotive field, with strong employability skills.

CARL MCGREGOR BURSARY FOUNDATION AWARDS OF $800.00 (2)

This award will be given to a graduating student who will be attending a program in Agriculture, or the first year of a Veterinary course.  Students will be selected on the basis of their character, academic standings, and area residency for at least three years.

Awarded to a Trojan Hockey player who will be continuing their education

Awarded to a student to pursue opportunities to study or travel.

Awarded to a student enrolling at the University of Manitoba. The student must have a minimum average of 85%

Awarded to graduating students who have demonstrated leadership, school spirit and a commitment to academics.

This award is presented to the most outstanding student in either grade 11 or grade 12 of the Pre-employment Program.

DAILY GRAPHIC BURSARY OF $200.00

Awarded to a graduate who will be furthering their education in the field of journalism, photography or graphic arts.

DELTA WATERFOWL BURSARY OF $500.00

Awarded to a graduating student, who has participated in a past Delta Marsh mentored hunt.  Applicants are required to write a  300 – 500 word essay, and must be planning to further their studies.                           

ELMA SLACK BURSARY OF $1000.00

Awarded to a graduating student who will be relocating his/her residence to a different community in order to pursue academic studies.

Awarded to a graduating aboriginal or Metis student who has achieved high academic standing over the course of the year.

Awarded to a student who has demonstrated good citizenship and is planning to enter the nursing profession at either a community college or university.

KAREN HANDFORD MEMORIAL BURSARY OF $250.00

To assist a student who is continuing their studies in the medical field, with a preference to Nursing.

KRISTA TULLY MEMORIAL BURSARY OF $400.00

Awarded to a female graduate who shows a love of learning and intends to pursue a post-secondary education in technology or science.  This award is in memory of Krista Tully, a former student of Arthur Meighen. Character and financial need will also be considered.

MARGARET WEBSTER MEMORIAL BURSARY FUND OF $500.00

Awarded to a graduating student with an average of minimum 70%. This student will be attending a University or College in a program for more than one year. The recipient will have been active in the school and community.

MAXINE EDMONDSON MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP OF $1000.00

Awarded to a graduate who plans to enroll a recognized University or Community College and who has achieved honors standing in Pre-Cal Math 40S.

Awarded to a graduating student who is continuing his/her education in the field of Agriculture.

NELL OWENS CUP FOR EXCELLENCE AND $230.00

Awarded annually to an English 40 student who shows outstanding writing ability in prose and/or poetry.

NELSON VIANZON MEMORIAL AWARD OF $200.00

This award will be given to a graduating student who has done a significant amount of volunteer work in school and in the community, has supported the school in many ways through extra-curricular involvement, and who has shown a genuine caring for the welfare of their fellow students.

OAKVILLE LIONS CLUB SCHOLARSHIP OF $500.00

Awarded to a graduating student who has resided in Oakville, Poplar Point and surrounding area for a minimum of two years and will be attending a post-secondary institution.

OREST AND EVA SHEWCHUK BURSARY OF $250.00

Awarded to a graduate who intends to pursue a program of study leading to certification as a teacher.  The graduate will be an avid reader and have been involved in the school and community.  The decision is made based on character and academic standing.

P.C.I ATHLETE AWARD OF $400.00 (2)

Awarded to a P.C.I. student who has dedicated a tremendous amount of time to high school athletics, and has been a positive role model.  (Does not have to be going on to Post-secondary)

Awarded to a student who has attended Poplar Point School for more than a year and will be furthering their education at a Post-secondary institution.

Awarded to a graduating student who has been accepted to a course of study leading to a degree or a diploma in Agribusiness, Commerce, Business Administration,  or Accountancy.

Awarded to a graduating student who will be continuing his/her education in a field of Business Administration, Marketing or Agriculture. This student must be accepted for entry into a post-secondary educational institution in Canada.

Awarded to a student who is entering a program in a post-secondary educational institution. Student’s parents must be members of the Credit Union.

Awarded to a student planning to enter a program leading to a degree or diploma in an animal-related field.

This award in memory of Mr. Walter R. Bell is presented to a graduating student who will be attending a post-secondary program and has proven himself/herself in academic work, taken an active part in his/her school and community and shown leadership qualities.
